Position Description

Position Summary

This position provides professional individual and group counseling to students and works with other educators and staff to provide educational and support opportunities for students.

Education Required

Master’s degree in a counseling-related field; professional license required

Experience Required

2 years counseling experience

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position

• Ability to assess and diagnose mental health disorders
• Knowledgeable in applying a variety of counseling treatment modalities
• Understanding of developmental psychology as it pertains to college-age students
• Knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education
• Ability to empathize with students and relate well to a diverse student body
• Ability to facilitate groups
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Ability to work independently

Special Working Conditions

May need to work evenings and weekends for on-call services and educational programs.

Primary Duties

1. Provide individual and group counseling to students and staff under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Health Services
2. Produce and maintain client case documentation in keeping with professional standards
3. Collaborate with other departments or staff in providing support for students
4. Serve on Engle Center Leadership Team
5. Provide on-call services in rotation with other full time counselors
5. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
6. Attend meetings as requested

Secondary Duties

1. Participate in Community of Educators, including committee work when assigned or elected
2. Other duties as assigned.
