Position Description

Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Interim Director of the Oakes Museum and the Museum Coordinator with conducting tours for school and public groups on an on-call basis.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree

Education Preferred

Additional teacher certification and/or background in biology or environmental science

Experience Required

Minimum of three years experience working with children

Experience Preferred
Skills, Characteristics Required for Position

• Ability to assimilate a great deal of information
• Ability to enthusiastically communicate information to children and/or adults
• Strong critical thinking and questioning skills

Special Working Conditions

• Ability to walk outside for 3-1/2 hours per work day

Primary Duties

1. Assist the museum coordinator in giving tours to schools and public groups on an on-call basis.
2. Attend training session designed to prepare docents to convey correct information about the various sections of the museum.
3. Visit elementary classrooms as assigned by the education coordinator or director.
4. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
