Position Description

Position Summary

The Department of Nursing in the School of Science, Engineering and Health at Messiah College invites applications for a full-time/term-tenure track or clinical track faculty position. The primary focus of this position will be in Medical-Surgical nursing and foundational courses. Additional areas of interest or specialty such as Obstetric or Pediatric Nursing will provide greater flexibility in teaching opportunities.

Responsibilities

Teach a variety of undergraduate courses according to relevant clinical practice, which may include: Foundations of Nursing Practice, Health Assessment, Historical and Conceptual Basis for Nursing, and Nursing Care of Adults and Older Adults. Other possible courses include Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family, and Nursing Care of Infants, Children, and Adolescents, depending on qualifications. Doctorally prepared candidates (PhD or DNP) may have the opportunity to teach graduate level courses as new graduate programs evolve. Faculty will have advising and institutional service responsibilities as well as continuing in their own scholarship and practice.

Qualifications

Master of Science degree in nursing with appropriate graduate courses in a relevant clinical discipline required with appropriate clinical practice certifications; graduate degree in nursing education, and teaching experience preferred; doctorate in nursing highly preferred (PhD or DNP), or current enrollment in doctoral study. Will consider candidates who make a solid commitment to pursue doctoral study upon appointment. Current, relevant clinical practice required. Previous college teaching experience preferred. Candidate should have a commitment to excellence in teaching in a Christian liberal arts setting and to ongoing scholarship, service, and practice in nursing.

The Program

The program enjoys a reputation for high quality classroom and clinical instruction producing well-prepared graduates who are preferred for hire in local and regional health care institutions. The undergraduate and master’s programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education; the newly developed DNP/FNP program will undertake accreditation in 2020.

The Department

A majority of full-time faculty are doctorally prepared and energetically seek innovative scholarship opportunities in practice and teaching. Simulation laboratories include advanced simulation with medium and high-fidelity human simulators. Faculty are committed to the integration of Christian faith in the practice of the nursing profession. Students also have opportunities for cross cultural experiences and development of intercultural competency is encouraged. Faculty are committed to the integration of Christian faith in the practice of the nursing profession.
