Position Description

Position Summary

The School of Graduate Studies at Messiah College invites applications for a 12 month Faculty of Occupational Therapy, term-tenure track, rank based on qualifications. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in the area of Adult Practice and/or Neuro Rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in the area of Adult Practice and/or Neuro Rehabilitation. The faculty member is expected to participate in curriculum development, admissions, community-based education/service learning experiences, OT program initiatives, and student advising. In addition, the faculty member will also engage in service to the college, the OT profession, and the community. Other responsibilities include serving as research faculty advisor and participation in scholarly work, such as research, grant writing, publications, and presentations at local, regional, national, and international meetings.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree in occupational therapy (OTD or DOT from a US regionally accredited college or university) is preferred. Candidates who possess a PhD in a field related to Occupational Therapy (OT), who also hold a master’s degree in OT will be considered. The successful applicant must have a license or be eligible for licensure as a registered occupational therapist in the state of Pennsylvania and have a minimum of 6 years of experience in occupational therapy practice. One to three years of teaching experience in a college or university is preferred. However, clinicians in transition to academia will be considered. A qualified applicant with clinical experience in Adult Physical Rehabilitation and/or Neuro Rehabilitation is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills are required. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with leadership and community-based service and/or volunteer experiences. The successful candidate should be able to articulate a statement of faith and teaching philosophy that is in alignment with the mission of Messiah College.

Preferred qualifications include teaching experience in an ACOTE accredited occupational therapy program and experience with ACOTE accreditation standards and procedures. Research experience is desired.

The Program

The Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at Messiah College will prepare competent occupational therapy practitioners with a focus on leadership and service. The MOT is a full time 80-credit hour program. The Occupational Therapy Program at Messiah College is housed in a 32,000 square foot facility with spacious teaching-learning spaces including state of the art Anatomy Lab, Pediatric Lab and an apartment with universal design /ADL Lab, as well as many other exceptional teaching labs.
