Position Description

Position Summary

This position provides assistance to the oversight to the administration of Off-Campus Programs, helping to develop policies and protocols, assess safety and manage crises, advise students and faculty about off-campus study, and provide support services to students studying off campus. Provides oversight for re-entry retreat, program partner visits, receptions, ISIC/ITIC cards, passport services visits.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree required,

Education Preferred

Master’s degree in international education, student affairs or a related field preferred.

Experience Required

This position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of off-campus programs administration experience that includes student advising, risk/crisis management, and working in program planning and implementation.

Special Working Conditions

This position requires the Assistant Director to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings as needed, and engage in possible international travel.

Primary Duties

1. Assist the Director of the Intercultural Office in administering all off-campus programs.
2. Coordinate all international travel through Messiah College (i.e., working with on-campus program coordinators, educators, and students to assure necessary paperwork is submitted in a timely fashion)
3. Advise students, parents, and faculty on off-campus program opportunities.
4. Assist in facilitating and/or conducting site reviews.
5. Serve as Experiential Learning Initiative (ELI) advisor for semester-long, off-campus program participants.
6. Develop marketing plan for off-campus programs; presentations to first year classes, design/update printed and web-based informational materials, publish media announcements, conduct information sessions.
7. Daily assess and monitor safety; communicate safety information to parents, students and campus in a timely manner; provide data for review by International Risk Management Committee.
8. Provide oversight for re-entry retreat, program partner visits, receptions, ISIC/ITIC cards, passport services visits.
9. Maintain data/statistics for all long-term and short-term off campus experiences.
10. Assist in assessing student learning and programming for semester long and short-term off-campus programs.
11. Serve on committees as assigned, including International Risk Management Committee and Off-Campus Programs Committee.
12. Update manuals each semester (i.e., International Travel Manual, Educator’s Guide to Cross-Cultural courses, Off Campus Student Handbook, etc.).
13. Foster an efficient and productive work environment in the Intercultural Office.
14. Work collaboratively with other curricular and cocurricular educators and programs to assist in creating a holistic learning environment as an active member of the Community of Educators.
15. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

Secondary Duties

1. Collaborate with program partners and colleagues and make conference presentations.
