Position Description

Position Summary

This is a temporary, 12 month staff position responsible for covering the responsibilities of the Master teacher or Child Care teacher in our early childhood program. This includes the implementation of programming in our preschool or extended care program as well as overseeing the classroom operations and student teachers/student assistants working within the classroom.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and valid PA ECE teaching certificate (Pre-K-4) or Private Academic School teaching certificate N/K is required for substituting in our PDE licensed preschool program; An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field is required for substituting in our licensed Full Day program.

Education Preferred

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field is preferred for teaching in our licensed Full Day program.

Experience Required

Substitutes with an associate’s degree as listed must have 3 years of experience working with children.

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position

Must possess the following certifications: First aid, CPR, Act 80, and health assess.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to positively and effectively communicate and interact with
young children, families, and college students.

Must have the ability to maintain a sense of flexibility when interacting with children and co-workers, supporting and respecting each person’s strengths, abilities and ideas.

Must possess good organizational skills.

Primary Duties

Cover responsibilities for teachers when absent for benefit time or professional development opportunities.

Implement a developmental program in accordance with DPW licensing standards,NAEYC accreditation criteria, and the Center’s stated mission and policies.

Provide parents of enrolled children with regular feedback and insight concerning their child when covering for the classroom teacher.

Maintain classroom appearance and cleanliness.
